Summer 2020 – Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program in the Summons Lab
2019-Present – B.S. Candidate in Biology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

In addition to pursuing studies in the Department of Biology, I am also looking to explore opportunities in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at MIT to possibly engage in the fields of geobiology and paleobiology.

Research

In the Summons Lab, I will be working with graduate student Angel Mojarro on a project that will utilize metagenomic and metaproteomic analyses of ancient DNA and proteins from well-preserved fossils to examine the diversity of microbial communities that may be involved in the re-mineralization of organic matter. I hope to use the methods and tools of bioinformatics to gain insight into microbial alteration and the fossilization process.

I am especially interested in exploring the fields of geobiology and paleontology, and I hope to learn more about the evolutionary history and origins of life on Earth from a geobiological perspective. Outside of research and classes, I am an associate advisor for freshmen and enjoy teaching and working with children, writing, and reading a good book.
